You Can't Lose what You Never Had!!!

It is a little challenging to leave what you have in hand and run after something, which might be look like a better prospect or sometimes, even your Long cherished dream. True, Job hopping is a new wave in the country today. People leave what they have been doing for years or months to do something, they really wanna do, or a better prospect at a competing company, but is it really that easy for a sportsman, and especially if you have the potential to be the "Best Player of the year". This is the confusing sight of None other than, Cristiano Ronaldo.

A die hard Manchester United Fan, I could never believe that David Beckham, was leaving the club a few years ago, to join the Famous Real Madrid. But as a kid then, what attracted me even more was the 40 million pound transfer of the footballing great. I followed Real Madrid after that to see David play..... and wish he could. Fabio Cappello's distinction could be seen soon after. Though his first goal made news, Beckham was a long way away, from his Footballing Fame at Man U. And go to see, Beckham hardly achieved it. He later moved onto LA to inspire the growth of football, but thats like taking Gandhiji to Afghanistan, to teach people Satyagraha. Beckham is surely past his prime.

I find Cristiano in a similar fix. I think he is weighing the two sides, money and fame on one side, with football on the other. No issues, Cristiano will surely get to play. People will come to see him play, and no club is stupid enough to make him sit on the bench after paying 65 million pounds to him. But will the football he play, be similar to the way it is played at Old Trafford? Does he really figure in Real's scheme of things or is he just a way to mint money for the club? This is what only time can answer.

But Cristiano faces a tough future. His desire to play for Real must have initiated as a kid, and no doubt it still holds strong. But he recuperates from his operation, even a single statement from him or his agent can mar his future. If he stays back, after a disputed negotiation regarding the transfer, Sir Alex will surely make his life hell at the club. But if he moves away, his commitment will always be questioned. If he had such plans of moving away, he should not have renewed his contract in first place last year. When he did, that shows he has committed to the club. And no way should shy away from his commitment. Besides, there aren't any issues, as to why he has to leave Man Utd. He has played a fairly long season, with enough starts and had enough goals to be called the Player of the tournament as well as the best player in the world, ahead of Ronaldo, Giggs, Gerrard, Lampard, Eto etc etc.

Now, if he leaves, it wont be a set back for United, but they will surely miss him. With Louis Saha likely to leave, and Tevez playing more as a mid fielder, Utd. will be short of a striker, whom they might sign, (Read Berbatov), but might lack in the mid field, which is their stronger point. Giggs growing old and Scholes accompanying him, United is in search for a younger team, they are trying to build around Cristiano, with Rooney, Nani, Anderson.

I think Cristiano still needs to mature, his peak is yet to come and has ample to time to realise his dreams. If he stays, he can build around himself a team and prove his commitment. He must stay for more than a year, and grab around a few Best Player of the year awards, while at United. He has examples of Becks, Best, Nistelrooy, who all went away from United for money, or fame, and could not achieve what they wanted to.

Cristiano 's dream of playing in Spain and that too for Real, has plenty of time, and can come true, but as of now, he has to prove his loyalty and commitment. He might consider, that he cannot lose what he never had.
